SCHOOL PROGRAMMES
A school programme on occasion of Magh Bihu, a traditional festival of Assam on 13th Jan was celebrated in Parizat Academy, students were focused the importance of culture and tradition with relation to scientific relationship with it. Academy is a non-governmental school run by Parijat Academy Trust that offers free education including free Hostel facilities to economically marginalized students from Assam-Meghalaya Border areas majority of whom are tribals. The school has classes from I-X. The founder Head Master, Mr. Uttam Teron, initiated the school in 2003 with some school drop outs from the area. The school is located at an unique juncture of the Rani-Garbhanga Reserve Forest on one side and Deepar Beel, the only Ramsar site on another side. Rani-Garbhanga Reserve Forest is said to be the lung of Guwahati as it contains the greenery in the periphery of the city and Deeparbeel is said to be the kidney of Guwahati as it filters the city drainage. City drained water, falls in Deeparbeel through Basistha Bahini and after getting filtered by the aquatic vegetation in the wetland, it escapes to Brahmaputra through Khanajaan. Due to anthropogenic pressure both Rani-Garbhanga Reserve Forest and Deepar Beel are in danger. All the students coming to this school belongs to families who have direct or indirect dependence on either of the two eco-systems. Parijat academy has been putting in efforts to mobilize the local community for education, creating awareness and protecting the two eco-systems. As part of the Eco-club network and as a partner school of CEE, the school has been contributing a lot towards environment protection. The programme aimed at bring forth some of the important facts related to the five thematic areas of Paryavaran Mitra. It is to make an awareness of best utilization and perseverance of nature’s resources and the sustainable utilization of the resources. The programme was held on the eve of the Magh Bihu, so that the harvest festival of Assam could be explained in relation to the biodiversity, cultural heritage, energy aspects etc.
